Taken on strength ca.late 1967 as a TA-4F. It’s first assignment was with Attack Squadron 55 (VA-55) at NAS Lemoore, CA, and on Mar 11, 1968 it deployed to South Vietnam aboard USS Hancock. By June 1968 it was back at Lemoore with VA-22, and on 6/12/68 it again deployed to Vietnam, this time on USS Bon Homme Richard. By March 1969 it was back at Lemoore with VA-55, and on Mar 13, 1969 it deployed again with them aboard the Hancock. On Sep 25, 1970 the plane was transferred to Marine Training Squadron 103 (VMT-103) at MCAS El Toro, CA. In ca.1979 the plane was converted to OA-4M forward air control version, and by 1980 was flying at NAS Miramar with Fighter Squadron 126 (VF-126), an aggressor squadron. In ca. 1986 it was converted to TA-4J and that October was assigned to Training Squadron 25 (VT-25) at NAS Chase Field, TX. By June 1994 the plane was flying with Training Air Wing 2 (TW-2) at NAS Kingsville, TX. By August 1997 it was with VT-7 at NAS Meridian, MS. By October 1999 it was displayed at NAS Kingsville, TX, in front of the Headquarters building on loan from National Naval Aviation Museum. Courtesy Joe Baugher. |
