| This aircraft was originally ordered as a C-47B with USAAF s/n 43-49457, and was transferred to the Navy as R4D-6 50814. In 1962 it was redesignated as a C-47J and later transferred to the Army. It was then modified to DC-3S configuration with uprated engines, a mod kit to the undercarriage which included doors, larger wheels and rudder modification. It was also given extensive electronic equipment and assigned to the Army Electronics Command and utilized as an airborne electronic test bed as an EC-47J. In May 1970 the electronics were removed and the plane reverted to C-47J, assigned to the JFK Center for Military Assistance at Ft. Bragg, NC, where it flew approximately 500 hours annually in support of Special Forces missions. In 1975 it was transferred to the North Carolina Forest Service and registered N48211.
