Lost Jan 31, 1980 near Oroville, CA. USAF pilot Edward I. Beaumont lost consciousness while on training flight. Plane glided earthward until it hit some high-tension electrical lines, causing the plane to slowly spiral to the ground. Having regained consciousness by the sudden jolt of hitting the ground, the pilot exited the U-2. The aircraft is now mounted on a pylon at Beale AFB, California. (Courtesy Joe Baugher) |
