| 58-0013 was the aircraft that lost two engines off of the left wing in a wake turbulence incident during Desert Storm combat operations. The engines and struts were literally ripped from the wing in response to wild gyrations created by the inadvertent wake turbulence encounter. The engines flew off and ripped the HF antenna off of its attachment points, narrowly missing contact with the fuselage and vertical stabilizer.
I was the on-duty Assistant Director of Operations at Jeddah, S.A., when this incident occurred. The aircraft was hangared in preparation for repairs by a Boeing team of specialists. There are several photos on the WWW of the aircraft missing the engines. |
