A licence built Dassault Mirage IIIE, now restored following an engine flame-out (due to a sticking 'Stops Corrector' in the Accel. Control Unit) on approach to Darwin Airport. The Pilot, Flg Off John Quaife (now AVM Quaife), ejected and the aircraft pancaked wheels-up onto the Ludmilla mudflats. The centre-line fuel tank was ripped off and the 'Miracle' skidded to a stop on her supersonic tanks. A3-36 has now been restored, in 75 Sqn camouflage livery. |
