The photograph appears to have her signature on it. Barbara (nee Wenman, daughter of a famous sailing family) was the widow of wife of Comte Guy de Chateaubrun, Percival’s representative in France who lost his life in an air crash. She married Alex Henshaw see www.airsceneuk.org.au the legendry aviator and test pilot. G-AETD was sold to Roger Guy Hansez (also reported as d’Hansez) of Brussels and was re-registered in Belgium on 30.02.1939 as 00-ANC. On May 11 1940 it was reported damaged on “raid Bevekom” (also known as Beauvechain) – during the Battle of Belgium by the invading German Wehrmacht. Its registration was cancelled on 3.5.46 (also reported as “03.04.1946 RADIE D’OFFOCE: DISPARU PENDANT LA GUERRE”. Elsewhere it was reported as “destroyed at Beauvechain airfield on the 11th of May 1940 by the Luftwaffe attack.” |
