The original G-ARUL was c/n 102 registered N22C built by Le Vier in 1948 and named Ballerina. Imported into the UK in 1965 the aircraft was almost destroyed in a crash during an air race at Halfpenny Green on 29-8-1966. The remains were bought by Paul Bannister and painstakingly rebuilt over several years flying again named Ballerina II in 1973. So little of the original airframe was reusable that the rebuilt aircraft was allocated a PFA constructors number. The two aircraft are easily distinguishable in photographs as the original Ballerina has flutes or corrugations in the skin on the rudder and other control surfaces whereas Ballerina II has smooth control surfaces. |
