This aircraft actually got me started in aviation. I rode my bike to the old South Tacoma Airport when I was 13 and helped the owner Frank Bly restore it. I soloed on my 16th B day got my Private on my 17th B day and when I turned 18 he held out the key and said "it's time you took her around". I flew it consistently even after Franks death and until the current owner purchased it from the family in the early 80's. Lots of great memories. Its the only "W" still flying. Some time ago the current owner actually found the original owner and if I remember correctly, took them up. |
