 This aircraft was built as C-47A 43-49613 and delivered to USAAF on 11/29/44, but diverted to USN as R4D-6 BuNo 50819, initially assigned to Fleet Air Wing 5 at Norfolk, VA in Jan 1945. Transferred to Naval AIr Transport service Aug 1946 with VR-2 Sqdn based at Alameda, CA. Apr 1947 saw it with VR-22 NATS back at Norfolk and then modified as an ASW R4D-6S. Still with the Navy, it was first registered as N9119Z, then as N60. In 1959 it was place in storage in Phoenix, AZ. The FAA began operating the plane on 8/1/66 and on 8/29/66 it was re-registered as N68, with U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. Re-registered as N68AH in Jan 1977, then to N229GB in Jun 1977. During 1979 it was stored as N68AH in Arizona before going to State Agency Surplus Property. On 6/2/81 it was bought by the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, registered as N229GB and marked as VR-2 NATS
