| N301F, contest number HD (expired) is now a non-airworthy aircraft. I flew HD (a.k.a. Humpty Dumpty) during the 1980's. My partner in the ship left it on an open trailer in the Southern California desert for 25 years. HD is now the "parts doner" plane for my other Libelle, N324W and my associate's H301-B Libelle, N1811T.
HD was involved in a mid-air collision sometime in the late 1960's. Subsequently, it was rebuilt to flying consition. Later a landing in a ditch broke the right wing spar at the root. This was again repaired and HD was again flying. I lost contact with my partner in the late 1980's as family and work took all my free time. Recently, I contacted him and found HD in the condition shown. My associate, Wayne Walker, bought his interest in HD and it now resides in our hangar in Fallbrook (L18) and is the source for miscellaneous metal parts for our surviving Libelles and their respective trailers.
Rest in Peace, Humpty Dumpty. |
