C-49s were not built as such; they were DC-3s that were impressed into the Air Corps until C-47 stocks were built up. My understanding is that some served the entire war with the military while others were returned to the airlines. Same holds true for C-48s, C-50s, C-51, C-52s, C-68s and C-84s |
