FISHER CLASSIC: The Story of N7066Y

FISHER CLASSIC:  N7066Y

The Story of N7066Y

Andrew (Andy) N. Duncan (Kiaorana)

.

 1990 – 1993
.

The original kit for N7066Y was sold by Fisher Flying Products (FFP) of Edgeley, North Dakota to Ivan Cox of Nanticoke, Ontario, Canada and invoiced November 11th 1990.

Ivan Cox was a cabinet maker and, according to an email (dated 29 October 2003) from Gene Hanson of FFP, the aircraft is built stronger and heavier than most.  The aircraft, serial number CO54, was first registered in Canada as an Ultra-Light on May 2nd 1991 with the tail number C-IDFH.

.

 1993 - 2003

.
In September of 1993, the aircraft was sold to Robert R. Garner of Iowa who registered it with the FAA.  On September 23rd 1993 the aircraft was issued the registration number N7066Y.

.

Few records exist of any work done on the aircraft during Mr. Garner’s ownership.  Phone conversations with Mr. Garner indicated that he flew very few hours in the aircraft and that it had been stored in a climate controlled hanger throughout his ownership.  This was corroborated by Don Matthews, the third owner of the aircraft who purchased it from Robert Garner in 2003.

.

 2003 - 2006
.

On November 4th 2003, Don and Marge Matthews of California purchased the aircraft from Robert Garner, removed the wings, and transported it in a trailer to Porterville, CA.

.

The aircraft had minor damage to the fabric on the right lower wing tip.  In early 2004 Don Matthews stripped the fabric from the wing tip, inspected for damage, none was found, and recovered and repainted the wing tip.  While the wings were removed from the aircraft, they were inspected for structural integrity and two stringers re-glued using T88 epoxy glue.  In addition Don did the following:

  • February 2004: Installed the RP6A Classic Tall Landing Gear package together with new Matco Wheels and Hydraulic Brakes  and new tires
  • February 2004: Replaced the tailwheel
  • February 2004: Replaced the elevator horn with updated two part horn
  • March 2004: Installed twin headset jacks and PTT intercom system
  • March 2004: Replaced all engine hoses.  Drained and replenished all fluids.
  • March 2004: Installed a Gascolator
  • March 2004: Rebuilt carburetors, replaced float in front carb.  Carb jets: 165; Main Jets: 11G2; High Speed jets: 165; Mid Range jets: 276
  • May 2004:  Installed an Icom IC-A200 VHF radio
  • May 2004: Fabricated a cowl modification to improve airflow through the radiator, refinished and repainted cowl, installed new radiator.
  • Spring 2005: Replaced spark plug wires, pick-up assembly and the stator (magneto and generator coils).

Don Matthews stored the aircraft in an insulated hanger in Porterville, CA

.

 2006 -
.

On September 9th 2006, N7066Y was sold to Andrew Duncan and Kathy Cheval of Independence, Oregon.  The Matthews again disassembled the aircraft and trailered it to Oregon where it was inspected and re-assembled by Don Matthews and Andy Duncan.  The Hobbs meter showed 125.8 hours which was verbally verified by Don Matthews

During re-assembly the aircraft was inspected for damage and structural integrity – no damage was found.

Until this time, N7066Y had been flown as an Ultra-Light aircraft.  In October 2006, application was made for Experimental Light Sport Aircraft Certification and an ELSA Airworthiness Certificate was issued on 12/07/2006.
