N78011 Non-Fatal, Centennial Airport

PARKER - A Cessna landed on a grassy area on the westbound side of E-470 near Peoria Friday afternoon.

The Parker Fire District says the plane was on the way from Arizona to South Dakota. The plane had stopped at Centennial Airport to refuel.

"The plane ... had trouble gaining altitude," said Becky O'Guin with the Parker Fire Department. "Realizing it was having difficulty, the pilot began to turn the plane, hit the eastbound lanes of E-470, crossed the eastbound lanes and the westbound lanes, hit a tree with the wing and came down an embankment."

The Fire District says three people were on board. They were not hurt.

The plane had to be towed from the scene.

The National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating.
