Can anyone come up with a description or (even better) picture of the 5-seat D2000 which appears to have originated with the name Naylor but been built by others? Florida area seems probable on available data. Known examples are:

N158TA (c/n 0001)
N158TH (c/n 0002)
N158WW (c/n 0003)
N158LL (c/n 0004)
N158EB (c/n 0005)
N158HD (c/n 0006)
N251TA (c/n 0007)

Possibly a turbine-powered rotorcraft of some sort?

Ta for any help on this one!

Rgds,

Pete Hughes

Pete,

Check Jane's All The World's Aircraft, 1992-'93 for D-series experimental light aircraft (Daytona), p. 373. I don't have that edition, but this info is best probable lead that I can supply. Possible coordinated group build from dates of FAA certification?

Thanks for that pointer Doug. Janes 92/93 is on my bookshelf but the Daytona D series is a 2-4 seat low wing single Lycoming piston type with designations D120 to D300 based on HP. The D2000 are all registered as 5-seaters. Daytonas are development from Jamieson D Series. The serarch goes on, I'm afraid!

Best wishes,

Pete

Thanks, Pete. Apparently the D2000 experimental never made it into Jane's-I searched the back ten year indexes in Jane's over that time frame of build/registration, only coming up with the one suggestion. Nothing in Jane's Encyclopedia of Aviation, either. The EAA might have some information, however.

Hi Doug,

You are burning the midnight oil. Beautiful bright Sunday morning here with more snowfall from overnight.

Looks like the D2000 could be FH1100 derived. The name Naylor has now come up in another group as a helicopter dealing con-man who is in prison for selling duff parts and taking cash from people for helicopters that never existed in Florida. Still no D2000 pictures or descriptions beyond the tentative FH1100 link, though.

Rgds,

Pete

Pete,

Our FAA did certify the seven D2000 aircraft that are on the current register, so they exist, airworthy or not. There has to be some information, despite no photos on A-D. Keep digging, and yes, I am a night owl. Our SoCal night sky at the beach is clear, starry and benignly mild, as usual. Good flying weather.

Some more Links and data about the Naylor saga (developer of the D2000)

IMHO, the D2000 never existed as complete, airworthy frames.
At best partial or incomplete FH1100 frames registered with FAA/USCAR.

News abstract from 2001:

FAA tracking suspect helos
Article Abstract:
The Federal Aviation Administration is tracking the owners of up to 42 helicopters refurbished by a firm that traded in the 1990s as Dynamic Helicopters, Thunderbird Helicopters or World Helicopters. The Clearwater Executive Airpark, FL-based company is under investigation for alleged installation of surplus military parts on different helicopters. Three of these helicopters were involved in fatal accidents. Currently, the firm's owner Richard Naylor is serving a 10-year jail term in Georgia for failure to deliver a helicopter worth $125,000.
