Airline grounded for a week over safety issues

Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority has grounded all domestic flights by Tiger Airways (Australia) for a week, commencing immediately, because it has lost confidence in the airlines safety record.

This suspension coincides with the beginning of school holidays in Victoria and New South Wales. Jetstar and Virgin Australia are trying to schedule additional flights to assist affected travellers.

TIGER Airways will remain grounded until at least August 1 as the aviation industry safety regulator continues its investigation into the airline.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority said tonight it would seek through the Federal Court to extend the airline's suspension.

It has now been revealed that the two flights below Lowest Safe Altitude which led to the grounding of Tiger Airways were captained by the same pilot.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is also checking Jetstar maintenance practices which led to the company grounding three A320's for a couple of days.
