Daniel Ihde has uploaded an image to the database having the above reg but as he states, it is not the Piper airframe as currently shown in the FAA database.

Whilst it appearsat first glance to be a Boeing PT series, I am unable to identify it specifically due to the curved sweep of the forward edge of the tail fin into the fuselage and the wing strut arrangement.

Help with identification would be appreciated.

Malcolm.

Malcolm

It looks like a WACO F series; a UPF-7
Haven't been able to tracked down the c/n (msn) yet.
A little more research and I'll do a profile, unless someone else
gets to it first Smile

John

Hi Malcolm,

There is a strong possibility the c/n is 5797.

I looked at all the UPF-7 photos on a.net and noted reg nos close to 32165 and their relevant c/n. (5 reg nos from 32133 to 32168). I entered all no's in that range into a spreadsheet, entered the first couple of c/n then used the auto fill for the rest of the range. All c/n shown on a.net matched the auto fill list for the available reg nos. It would appear a block of reg nos was reserved for the production run.

From this list the c/n for 32165 is 5797.

Unconventional method of searching, I know.

If N32165 c/n is 5797,
then its last registration was (is ?) N31HG
currently expired (09 May 2011)

Tried to track down last known owner, no luck;
FAA fiche back to 1987 show no current owner. (blank entry).
Will keep digging!

Thanks both for the clear ident of the type.

I have raised a profile for the airframe, less cn & ownership details.

The Aerial Visual listing for WACO also leads me to believe that the cn is most likely 5797.

No rush, let's see whether John can confirm.

Malcolm.

Sorry, forgot to add that if it is indeed N31HG, then clearly I will link the two reg's and cancel the new profile.

Malcolm.
