I will be taking pictures at Charlotte airport in April ( 24 - 28 ). Are there any other good airports in the area?

Thanks for help

Hello Dietmar, Charlotte/Douglas Int'l CLT, is 4 miles west of city. Wilgrove Air Park 8A6 is 9 miles east of the city. Monroe Regional EQY is just southeast of Charlotte about 10 miles. Hickory Regional HKY is about 40-50 miles northwest of Charlotte. Wilson's E40 is 4 miles south of Hickory. Concord Regional JQF is northeast of Charlotte 15-20 miles. Mooresville Lake Norman Airpark 14A is about 5 miles northwest of the city and about 20-25 miles north of Charlotte.

Might be best to purchase a Sectional Chart from a North Carolina FBO after arrival to find these easier. Commander Aviation (1-800-257-3741, 704-359-5241)) is an FBO on CLT, location southeast. The Sectional might show other airports as well. Only Int'ls would be on a rental car map. Next nearest International Airport would be near Greensboro-Piedmont Triad Int'l GSO and near nearby Winston-Salem is Smith Reynolds INT (not an Int'l).

Hello. I am from the Hickory area (40mi NW of KCLT) and have covered most of the airplanes there. Also, there are not many airplanes flying there aside from the trainers. However, the Statesville Airport (KSVH) is a little closer and usually has much more air traffic but nothing compared to Charlotte. You could also consider Piedmont-Triad in Greensboro but it is a fairly long drive. At that distance in the other direction, you have Colombia, SC and Greenville, SC. Also, Concord, Regl. is a fairly busy regional airport for general aviation. I wouldn't bother with Wilson's (E40) but If you do come by Hickory, I would also recommend Morganton-Lenior (KMRN) nearby. Asheville is a good ways up the road into the mountains, but it is Interstate all the way and does have airline service.

If you have any questions, let me know.
