Name a centerline-thrust pressurized twin-engine certified aircraft of 700 total horsepower. This might be my toughest quiz yet-prove me wrong.

1. Manufacturer?

2. Official name of aircraft?

3a. Engines manufacturer? 3b. Engines nomenclature? (You already know the individual horsepower).

4. Base price?

5. Material of aircraft construction?

Let's give this a whirl.

1. Adam Aircraft Industries

2. A500

3a. Continental 3b. TSIO-550-E

4. USD 1.25 million.

5. Carbon fibre epoxy composite with nomex honeycomb core.

I believe they only built seven.

That would’ve been my guess. Or the Cessna 337 but the A500 sounds more like what Doug described.

You both got it mainly right, except for price and number built. Original price was $895,000, and there are 27 registered by the FAA in today's checkup--BUT, and this a big BUT, 4 of the 27 replicate earlier serial numbers with different registries so more likely there are/were 23 actual Adam A500s built and registered. This would not account for any destroyed/deregistered; if that ever happened. My answers follow.

1. Adam Aircraft.

2. Adam Aircraft A500.

3a. Two Continental. 3b. TSIO-550-E 350 Hp each.

4. $895,000 original sales price.

5. All carbon fiber construction.

A definitive illustrated 7 page article about the aircraft is in the AOPA PILOT issue of July 2003 showing flight photos, interior and full specifications, performance figures and limiting and recommended airspeeds.

Thank you for your quick responses.

According to wiki only 7 A500s were built, only believed to be 4 left flying due to shortage of parts. I personally have only seen one privately flying outside of the manufacture display model at Sun N Fun that they had with their A700 jet. I thought that maybe there would be some pictures of them here and there at airports but even the Beech Starship shows up more than the A500 at airports it seems.

Daniel, a re-look today at the FAA Registry shows/confirms registrations for 20 DIFFERENT serial numbers of ADAM A500 aircraft, with some multiple registrations of the 20 different serial numbers.

To clarify and address the last post, this ADAM A500 aircraft listing is replicated in the Manufacturer listing on the front page Manufacturer link of THIS site under Adam Aircraft. Have a look also on THIS site to see the more than seven Adam A500 serial numbers and the serial registrations of those 20 different registrations. It appears/confirms that more than 7 were built and registered with the FAA.
