The BBC has reported that after tests use of hydrogen to fuel aircraft has been ruled out because of enormous costs, despite several cryoplane demonstrations. The electricity cost of producing hydrogen is enormous, and few sources exist that do not produce carbon dioxide as a byproduct. I should also mention the safety factor which ruled out later hydrogen-filled dirigibles which used hydrogen for airship levitation.

Remember the German hydrogen-filled airship Hindenburg disaster of 1937? Killed in the conflagration were 22 crewmen, one member of the ground crew and 13 passengers. I am old enough to remember.
