Hey Everybody,

Thought I'd start a new thread about photo editing software in case anybody had any questions about it.

In fact, I do have a question I'm hoping somebody may be able to answer. Here it is -

One day while on-line, I had Adobe Elements open along with a Firefox window and a folder. I'm guessing my internet connection got interupted or either my computer froze. Either way, now, if I'm connected to the internet and I try to open a file with Elements, it takes literally 15 minutes for the program to open. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Elements with the same results. Any thoughts as how to fix it?

Hi Brad,

Since I don't have Elements installed (I use PhotoShop), I can't be specific. But here's some general tips:

Is your hard drive full? If the hard drive is full, the program has no where to swap, the speed will slow down a lot.

Does Elements open a big project or lots of files upon loading?

Is hard drive light on all the time during Elements load up? If the light is always on, it means the program is access hard drive all the time, in other words, either it's reading huge file(s), or it's got stuck while reading files (which in turn usually indicates hard drive hardware problem).

Hope this helps.

Ken

Hi Ken,

I doubt it's my hard-drive - I have two, one 60Gig and the other 40G. The first is almost 40% full and the other less then 30% full - defragged recently. When everything stopped working (froze), I had to shut the computer down by just pressing the button on the computer rather then shut it down by using Windows. Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 has no problems opening a photo unless my internet connection is active - otherwise, it works like normal - fast. Hmmm?

Sounds like your computer is trying to connect w/ Adobe for updates. Mine does that when I go into Acrobat. It normally opens another window though. If it only locks up when you are connected to the internet, you may want to look through the "options" in Adobe and see if there is a setting to say "Do not connect to internet" (or to that fact). It may fix the problem.

FYI - I use PSP9 (Paint Shop Pro v9). The "sharpen" tool takes an otherwise good photo and makes it a great photo!

I've tried just about everything and nothing is working or making it go back the way it used to be. I can click on a file and choose 'open file with adobe' and it takes forever. If I turn my modem off, the file opens immediately. Weird.

For what it's worth, probably nothing because no questions were actually answered, my adobe photoshop started working like it always did. Hmmm...? Computers...I wish I really knew what went wrong so I could relay it to anybody else who may run across the same problems I did.

That's a great news, though I am still wondering what could cause the problem.
