US Navy 2011 Centennial of Aviation Special Events

The United States Navy is celebrating the Centennial of the birth of Naval Aviation when Eugene Ely successfully flew the first airplane off a U S Naval ship over water in 1911. Nearly 100 scheduled events in America will commemorate this historic event which enabled the U S Navy to now project sea power from aircraft carriers worldwide, guarding sealanes for safe passage of our shipping.
