I saw a brief news clip last week that there was a 7 aircraft flyby over London to commemorate the Battle of Britain. I supposedly had a Spitfire and a Lancaster in the formation. Did any of UK based contributor to A-D get photos of this event? Most of the news last week reported last week about the UK was drowned out by some helicopter pilot's wedding.

The BBC had some camera crews on board for some pretty cool coverage.

Oh deary, deary me Timothy!

Yes, we had a fly-by by the Battle of Britain (not Brittan or Britian!) Memorial Flight; a Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane followed by two Tornados and two Typhoons - in other words, most of the UK's Air Force and a bit of a non event to boot.

Yes it appears that at sometime in the future, we will have a Queen who is a Durham coal miners daughter, and Wills mother-in-law is a builder's daughter and a former air stewardess - goodness knows what are things coming to.

Plenty of Wills & Kate pics but none of the fly boys.

(Hope I don't end up in the Tower!!!)

M.

I know this is unrelated, but I remember Richard Burton in the movie (flick) "The Longest Day," making some comment about the "few" becoming "fewer." God bless the RAF flyboys who staved off "Operation Sea Lion" and kept England free long enough for we over-paid, over-sexed Americans to come "over there" and help our Brit friends eliminate Hitler. Just like our Brit friends helped us eliminate Sadaam and Osama. I'll never have a negative thing to say about our gallant ally.

God bless the United States of America and God bless the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (that would be England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, to the uninitiated). Long may the Stars and Stripes and the Union Jack wave.

I thought the Lancaster fly by and the RAF tornadoes etc was part of the Royal Wedding. My mom was watching that wedding on TV and she told me about the planes.

There was another flyby of some sort over London recently because the helicopter pilot mentioned in the original post grandmother has been on the job for sixty years.

Any photos?

That would have been the Queen's Diamond Jubilee (60 years as Queen)

My mom watched it on TV here. They had a Lancaster, some Spitfires, Hurricanes, the Red Arrows and a couple RAF Kingairs flew in formation with something.

Not as cool as the Queens Golden Jubilee where the Red Arrows flew with a Concorde

The something was, I believe, the BBMF support aircraft Douglas C-47A Dakota 3 ZA947.

The Lancaster was accompanied by four Spitfires in line abreast with a Hurricane following.

Sorry, no photos from me, I watched the celebrations on TV as did Daniels Mum!

Malcolm.

The previous fly past took place on June 12th 2012 on the Queens official birthday - she has two - her real birthday is April 21st. It has long been the tradition to celebrate the Sovereign's birthday publicly on a day in the summer, when good weather is more likely.

On the same day, Trooping the Colour is carried out by fully trained and operational troops from the Household Division (Foot Guards and Household Cavalry) on Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall, watched by members of the Royal Family, invited guests and members of the public.

Malcolm.
