Aviation Day - Witham Field Airport

What: For the first time ever plans are being made to host an airport ‘open house’ emphasizing the airports rich history and its historic role in the development of Martin County. The mission for ‘Aviation Day - The History of Aviation at Witham Field’ is to share with our community the rich and vibrant history of Witham Field and the Stuart Manufacturing Site.

Free to the public, Aviation Day will highlight through pictures, multi media shows and displays including static aircraft the history of Martin County’s airport and the Stuart Manufacturing Site. Also on display will be an assortment of military vehicles from WWII similar to the ones that would have been used during the construction of and early utilization of the airport and for those interested in learning and seeing more of Witham Field, airport tours will be running throughout the event.

When: Saturday January 13 2007
o Open to the public between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
o School, VIP and Media Day is scheduled for Friday January 12, 2007
o While school visits, media interviews and photo opportunities are encouraged, reservations for Friday will be required in advance and should be made through Event Coordinator Susan Palmeri at 772-463-2869

Interview and Photo Opportunities for the media:
o Friday January 12, between 1 p.m. and 4p.m. in the Vought Hangar #3 at Witham Field Airport
o A list of interviews will be provided in advance to the media via media advisory issued by mid-December.

Where: Witham Field Airport, Stuart Fl. event to be hosted in the Vought Hangar #3 behind Chantal’s Restaurant off of Airport Road.

Who: ‘Aviation Day – The History of Aviation at Witham Field’ is being organized by a committee of volunteers who are dedicated to researching, preserving and sharing with the local community the rich and vibrant history of our local airport. The event will highlight, through pictures and memorabilia, information about the initial construction of the airfield, early utilization of the airport by the military, hometown historical aviators Hugh Willoughby, Bert Krueger, Zack Mosley and other notable aviation figures and events. Also included will be specific information and pictures of the Stuart Manufacturing Site, including Grumman, Northrop, and Vought.
