unidentifiable aircraft photo's

Hi everyone

While working through the admin's Aircraft photos without a profile list, there are a large number of images of unidentifiable aircraft.

I have started marking these as UNKNOWN and have created a profile labelled as UNKNOWN,UNKNOWN

and moved all the photo's into that profile (currently over 630 images), therefore making it easier to scan through them using the next and prev buttons.

maybe some of you could have a look through these images to see if you can help with identifying these aircraft. If you can help, please post a reply in this thread with the Photo ID number: ie AC656532 and the correct tail number of the aircraft.

Some comments, hopefully useful!

Many of the items can never be identified. Some are components (engines, magnetos) that are not linkable to a specific airframe. Others are of models (albeit some full-scale) that are not properly aircraft. A lot of museum replicas will not have an identity as such (possibly BAPC type numbers for a few). In some pictures a registration is clearly visible and no doubt readable in the original shot - posters maybe not interested or too lazy, perhaps? A further split might be beneficial, leaving a long-term group of really unidentifiable items?

I have always thought that some items filed under airfields should instead be filed with specific aircraft registrations. Under the aircraft group here there are several that might be better with the relevant airfield?

I am also a little surprised at the poor quality of some recently taken shots - are we posters being moderated at all now? Old but interesting shots of low quality should be welcomed but a few amongst the unidentified risk the overall high reputation of the site, I feel.

Images of models and engines will be moved to the airport section, also if you come across any images in the airport section that you think should be moved to the aircraft section, please add a post to the data corrections forum with the photo ID and the admin team will have a look.

Images uploaded to the site are not moderated or screened, but will remove any image which has been posted in breach of copyright rules.
