| This aircraft was built as C-47A 42-100957 and delivered to the USAAF on 1/10/44. On 3/9/44 it was allocated to the U.S. 12th Air Force in Algiers, North Africa. The plane returned to the U.S. after the war and was taken over by the Reconstruction Finance Corporation on 9/14/45. Subsequently, it was sold to Air France as F-BAXN and registered on 12/26/46. On 10/28/48 the plane was sold to Soc ALSAM in Israel, and during August 1951 it was acquired by the Israeli Defense Force, becoming “1405.” The plane also carried the registration 4X-FNB during this time, which it used as the radio call-sign. It is now preserved in the IDF Museum at Haifa Air Base, Israel. |
