I worked briefly on this aircraft shortly after graduating A & P school in 1988. It was parked on the north side of the St Thomas, USVI airfield and was not airworthy. It had running engines but the FAA had tagged it for corrosion and crazed and yellowed plexiglas. It also had the rudders removed for repairs to the cracked horizontal stab channels but repairs were not completed due to other aircraft demanded more attention. Paint was in the colors of Virgin Air. (now air St. Thomas). I understand it had a history as a drug smuggler, and I think I remenber pot seeds under the cargo floorboards. |
