I am the current owner of Auster VH-BYM which was in the last consignment supplied to the RAF in early 1945. It was originally built with a Lycoming 0-290 130hp flat four and it served in Germany for a period of time before being used by Auster as a platform for various design projects. It was sold to KSA at Mascot in the mid-50s minus engine. Fitted with a Gipsy Major, new glass and a slightly larger tail and called an Auster Ajax, it was placed on the Australian Register as a J5D. The aircraft subsequently did some station work in NSW and then went to Tasmania where it ended on its nose after being put down on a beach. Spent a number of years in storage before being fully restored and fitted with the present 0-320 160hp Lycoming. It now has a little more than 1000 hours
