1. Name and describe the very first transatlantic flight by American helicopter/s starting from what US base? 2. What make/model helicopter/s? 3. Name the refueling bases enroute. 4. Full date of arrival in Scotland? 5. Why was this done? 6. How many helicopters participated?

1. Hop-A-Long (51-3839) & Whirl-Away (51-3890), July 15, 1952, flew from Westover AFB, Chicopee, Maine to Wiedsbaden, Germany.

2. Sikorsky H-19As (S-55)

3. 380 mile leg to Presque Isle, Maine - 570 mile leg to Goose Bay, Labrador - Kevlavic Iceland - 947 mile leg to Prestwick, Scotland - Aug 04, 1952 arriving a Wiesbaden, Germany

4. July 31,1952 arrived in Scotland

5. Taken to an airshow in the Hague, Netherlands

6. 2

The 3,984 statute mile trip took 20 days and accounted for 51 hours, 55 minutes of flying time

The Pilots were Captains Vincent McGovern, Harry Jeffers, George Hambrick, and Lt. Harold Moore.
