On Friday 23 May 2014 this helicopter rented from Channel Islands Helicopters based at Oxnard Airport OXR crashed about 1015 in the dry Santa Clara Riverbed a couple miles short of Santa Paula Airport SZP with one fatality, the sole occupant. The crash site was near the end of the 900 Block of Corporation Street near Highway 126, The Korean War Memorial Highway. The helicopter struck and broke power lines which started a small brush fire. It was unclear whether the power lines were the cause or the effect of the descending helicopter. The 42 year old pilot was from Las Vegas renting the R22 about 0900 for a planned one hour flight. Ventura County Fire Department and Santa Paula Fire Departments responded to the scene.
