It has been a while since offering a new Aircraft Quiz, so here is a new aeronautical brain twister test.

1. What was the very first year time-frame in an American aircraft that servo tabs were used to successfully cope with heavy pressure loadings imposed on control surfaces such that otherwise the pilot could not overcome them?

2. Name the aircraft builder and 3. The full aircraft nomenclature.

4. What was the top speed of the aircraft that produced the high control surface pressures?

Other aircraft features were retractable landing gear, enclosed bombardier's compartment and an internal bomb bay. (Just to perhaps give you some more clues).

I'll try this.

1. 1931

2. Boeing

3. Boeing Model 215 designated the YB-9, a prototype followed by the B-9 production model.

4. 186 mph

Good enough, Moxy. Here are my exact answers from my source.

1. 1931

2. Boeing

3. Boeing Y1B-9

4. 173.5 mph

(Incidentals)

The pilot could move the tabs that caught the flow of air and moved the larger surface. Other features of this streamlined twin-engine monoplane included the retractable landing gear, enclosed bombardier's compartment, and an internal bay for carrying bombs.

Thanks for your rapid and correct answers.
