Zane,

I believe your photos show either the prototype Maverick TJ-1500 Twinjet 1500 or a kit-built example. The ventral rear fins seem to have nailed it. Only the window in the left side door appears to differ (smaller) from the flying example shown at Oshkosh in June 2001, suggesting its the prototype. The registered flight example was N750TJ.

Maverick Air, Inc. of Penrose, CO was listed in Janes 2002-2003, on p.655-656 with photo, three-view and specs, never to be seen again in Janes. 2001 kit cost $219,000, less engines. Two engines-reconditioned GE T58 turbojets, $110,000 more. Five kits delivered by early 2001 of 14 ordered.

A proposed six-seat, European-built certified derivative was announced in August, 2001,-the MC2400. Factory-built version to use two Williams FJ33 or Agilis turbofans. Nothing more is known of that. With that open hangar, I would have gone in and asked.

Zane,

Correcting my last Forum post, this aircraft is indeed shown in my recently received copy of Janes All the World's Aircraft 2006-2007. Under a name change, the Maverick Twin Jet 1500 is called the Maverick Leader, with two Williams Fj33-4 turbofans of 1,100 lb st each. Maverick Jets, Inc. listed in Melbourne, Florida with different principals in the 2006-2007 edition of Janes. Plans were to develop a six seat version of the Maverick Leader to be called the MC2400 and be certified by the FAA. The prototype was destroyed in a fatal crash 24 January 2003.

Your photos may be of a kit built version of the Maverick TJ 1500.

Thanks Doug!

The registration seems to be on the open engine housing. I can't read it in my photos...I'll have to check back and see if I can catch it again.

Three years ago I saw this airplane and have not seen it since...until now!

Doug was correct. It is a Maverick Twin Jet!

I was searching for this aircraft as I had a hand in the manufacturing of it. This project was started in 2003. The original design has been heavily modified and it seemed the project would never end. Seeing that the original post was in 2008 and hadn't seen paint yet, it did take quite a long time to complete. This particular aircraft was originally configured with a door that slid aft. It is nice to see Troy finally completed it.
