W1048, Handley Page Halifax II C/N 11, No. 35 Sqn. RAF Halifax lost on its first operational sortie on 28.04.42 against KMS Tirpitz. Hit by flak, the Halifax was put down on a frozen lake in Norway. Recovered in 1973 and now on display in the Bomber Hall at RAF Museum Hendon.
