G-AJGS

This aircraft was rebuilt at Booker in 1968 +/- and flown to Miami. Flight Magazine had an article about the trip "Not such a Rapide Trip to Miami". It was put on the US register. It later crashed and was written off. The photo' is of G-AJGS on its first flight after restoration at Booker with Bert Goodchild at the controls.

This airframe has an unusual history which included not only registration changes but, unusually, also a change of cn and a subsequent return to its original cn.

Under G-ACZE and cn 6264, it was substantially damaged in a crash on December 27th 1945 and was declared PWFU and the registration cancelled on April 7th 1947.

It was completely rebuilt by De Havilland at Witney in 1946 and allocated a new registration G-AJGS and a new serial number W 1001 on October 24th 1947.

Eventually it was declared PWFU and de-registered on November 15th 1973

It was rebuilt in 1984 and re-registered on January 23rd 1985 under its original registration and serial, G-ACZE and 6264.

It was de-registered November 8th 2013 and now flies in the USA as N1934D.

More details may be found under

and

A difficulty arises from having to show four linked registrations having two serials. One solution would be to add "See comment" in the Construction Number (C/N) fields and describe Z7266, G-ACZE and N1934D with cn 6264 and G-AJGS with W 1001 in the respective comment in each profile, together with the above Internet links.

Comments welcomed.

Malcolm.
