 This aircraft was built as C-47A 43-49012 and delivered to USAAF on 10/18/44, but was diverted to the USN as R4D-6 BuNo 50761 and assigned to VR-3 Sqdn of Naval Air Transport Service, based at Olathe, KS. In Nov. 1946 transferred to Quonset Point, RI, then in April 1947 to Pensacola NAS, FL. The next month it was transferred to USMC VMU Sqdn at Corry Field, PA. In 1962 the aircraft was redesignated as a C-47J, and between July 1962 and October 1975 it was used by the U.S. Army with tail number 0-50761, then later changed to 0761. Became N219GB with the U.S. Dept of Agriculture on 9/20/76. In July 1980 it was transferred to the Forest Service Division until 10/84 when it was allocate to the museum at Tinker AFB, OK.
